Raising funds to help pay for services for our most vulnerable patients and making friends that support Rocking Horse Community Health Center with their dollars, their time and their talents is what our special events are all about!
Fall RUSH- On November 12, 2011 Rocking Horse Center Auxiliary will present its 9thh Annual reverse raffle. RUSH (Raising Unbridled Support for the Horse), will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Springfield. The event includes fabulous food, a live auction, and exciting entertainment. Many cash and gift prizes are awarded throughout the evening, including the top five cash prizes of $250, $500, $750, $1500, and the grand prize of $10,000. Two hundred fifty tickets are sold for the evening. As each ticket is drawn from the hopper, that ticket holder is then “eliminated” from winning the grand prize, unless they purchase a “Second Chance” sticker for the chance to be put back in the drawing and be guaranteed one of the top five cash prizes. Tickets continue to be pulled from the hopper until the last remaining ticket holder wins $10,000. This is a fast-paced evening filled with fun and anticipation as we wait to find out who will take home to grand prize!
Annual Golf Classic- Rocking Horse held its 9th Annual Golf Classic on Monday, June 27th, 2011 at Windy Knoll Golf Course. This event is Rocking Horse’s second largest fundraising event of the year with a goal of $32,000. This year the event raised nearly $37,000 to support programs to help the most vulnerable of our community. The golf outing features a round of great golf, lunch, dinner, drinks on the course, par 3 games, awards for the top teams, and a silent auction. This is also an excellent sponsorship opportunity for local businesses to act as Tee, Stable, Snack Station or Eagle Sponsors. Click here to sign up.
“Hoof it for the Horse” 5k Fun Run- This is an exciting new event for Rocking Horse Community Health Center. The 2011 5k Fun Run will be held September 10th at the Windy Knoll Shelter at Buck Creek State Park. The first year, the 5K was held in the neighborhood surrounding Rocking Horse Center with over 60 participants. Last year, the event drew over 250 walkers and runners. Sponsorships are available!
Holiday Angel Tree- Every year Rocking Horse Center Auxiliary sponsors an Angel Tree for the holidays. Rocking Horse staff members provide names of patient families who are in need of assistance for gifts for their children. Community members attend an Open House to choose names of children to sponsor. In 2010, over 400 children were provided with Angel Tree gifts. We expect this number to keep growing. Annual Back to School Drive- Every year Rocking Horse Community Health Center collects new school supplies for several of our neediest patients. Sometimes all you need in life to prepare you for success are the right tools, and we want to ensure that our patients are able to return to school with all the supplies they need to succeed. In 2010 we were able to provide back packs filled with school supplies to over 300 children. With the generous support of many individuals and organizations in the community we are able to provide these supplies to more children every year.
Annual Coat Drive- During the winter months, Rocking Horse Community Health Center provides new and gently used coats to our patients. Last year over 350 coats were handed out to our patients. At times, we have as many as 45 children on a waiting list for coats that will fit them. Many of these children have to stand out in the snow waiting for buses in only sweatshirts or light jackets. Coats are an urgent need for these children, but we can only distribute them as they are donated to us. New and gently used coats can be donated to Rocking Horse Center at any time throughout the year so we can be prepared when the cold weather arrives. Donations of hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves are also greatly appreciated.
